Name: Chris Wilson

Age: 55 (2009)

Training goal: Increase fitness for skiing (original goal)

Overview: Chris commenced training with Mind Body Motion in October 2007 and his goal was to increase his fitness levels for a heli-skiing trip in January 2008. Chris started on a program together with his wife Paula once a week but quickly progressed to training in two other group classes per week in addition to his couple’s session. He also took on an extra session on his own approx. 3 months out from his trip. Chris worked on aerobic and muscle endurance, both upper and lower body. He had a frozen shoulder and had some injuries from a previous skiing trip.

Results: When Chris first started training he could barely perform a push up or a crunch. His aerobic fitness was poor. Whilst on his skiing trip, he was placed in the top skiing group as a rookie, facing steep terrain and powder snow that he had not tackled previously. As a result of his improved fitness, he was able to do so with minimal fatigue and rapid recovery after the day’s skiing. Since that time Chris decided to participate in the City 2 Surf, despite not being a runner. He was a late entrant in 2008, only starting to run in June 2008. He not only completed the event in a time of 79 minutes, he went on to complete his first Half Marathon at the Sydney Running Festival in September 2008 with a time of 2 hours and 2 minutes. Chris competed in the City 2 Surf again in 2009 and reduced his time to 71 minutes. He also completed the Half Marathon again with a time of 1 hour and 50 mins.

Key attributes: Chris never gives up. He is extremely dedicated to his goals and will see them through to the end. He never skipped a training session unless a work commitment prevented it. He even started to enjoy aerobic exercise! He pushed himself to his limits and beyond in order to improve.
