AT&T Challenge

April 2010 AT&T have been working with us since March 2009 when we ran a series of group classes for their West Pennant Hills and North Sydney employees. AT&T value the health and well being of their employees and provided these classes as either a lunch time or late afternoon training session. As a result several of their employees have continued training with us over the last 12 months.

Recently the company asked us to propose a further training program. We presented to each team on general health and wellness issues and then kicked off a Fitness Challenge incorporating 2 challenge assessments and 10 weeks of training.

The initial fitness challenge assessment was based on a series of measurements. Every participant was measured on the following:

1. Resting heart rate
2. Flexibility (sit and reach test)
3. Waist measurement (around the belly button)
4. Hip measurement
5. Sit up test (there are four levels of sit up)
6. Push up test (how many they could complete)
7. Prone test (how long they could hold one)
8. Step test (heart rate under exertion)
9. Sprint test (over 20m)
10. Beep test

As part of the competition employees were also required to do three intense sessions of exercise per week (either with us or in their own time), as well as give up or change behaviour on a particularly "non-healthy" habit.

The winner received a package of complimentary training sessions, discounts and merchandise. This was not a competition that pitches employee against employee but rather one where the individual had to achieve the greatest improvement overall based on their own measurements.

The objective of the competition was to encourage the employees to improve their fitness levels and to develop consistent exercise patterns and reduce their "non-healthy" habits.

"Mind Body Motion has been providing personal training classes to the willing team at AT&T for the past 15 months. However, it was decided that we needed that extra push into the fitness and wellness realm. Mind Body Motion came to the AT&T offices and presented a health and wellness seminar which provided our employees with important and interesting health facts. They also introduced the fitness challenge initiative which was a fitness improvement competition run over 12 weeks with prizes to the most improved.

The fitness challenge run by Mind Body Motion was well received. The competitive nature of 30 employees was discovered. The outcomes were quite exceptional and I have received rave reviews from employees with requests to do another later on in the year. I can definitely recommend this fitness challenge to other corporate companies or groups in general."

And the winners are...

Martin and John

It was very close in the results. Two individuals were chosen as they both had fantastic results in very different ways.

Martin improved in a number of areas. His flexibility was by far the most significant with a 6cm improvement to being able to touch his toes. He reduced his waistline by 3cm, doubled the number of push ups he could do, ran faster in the sprint test, held a prone for four times as long as the initial occasion, was able to actually do sit ups where he could not before, and improved in the beep test by over two levels. He really tried each week to keep moving and trying just that little bit harder.

John already had a reasonable base level of fitness so his initial results were quite good. However he improved in flexibility by 1cm, reduced his waistline by 2cm, increased his number of push ups by almost 50%, increased one level in the sit up test, almost doubled his prone time holding it for a staggering four minutes (this is equal to the former MBM prone longest time level), improved on the sprint test, and increased by three whole levels in the beep test.

Both Martin and John had lower resting heart rates and Martin’s step test results showed a lower heart rate under exertion indicating that potentially the step test was a little easier this time around.

Terrific results for both guys and we look forward to seeing them in their Mind Body Motion gear at their complimentary sessions, which was their award. Well done!
